Papers of Philip Jackson Darlington, Jr., ca. 1924-1983 (inclusive).

Contains correspondence, memoranda, financial statements, manuscript, reviews, and other papers. Much of the material relates to Darlington's duties as Curator of Insects and Fall Curator of Coleoptera in the Museum of Comparative Zoology. Various entomological, biogeographical and biological problems are discussed, including genetics, evolutionary theory and zoogeography. Professor Darlington's specialization in Carabidae is well represented; he was particularly interested in the Carabidae of New Guinea, Australia, Chile, the West Indies and North America. Also included is material relating to various collecting trips overseas. Darlington corresponded with such scientists as Carl Lindroth, J.M. Valentine, Fritz van Enden, Alfred E. Emerson, Terry L. Erwin, Kenneth Cooper, and E.O. Wilson. Includes reviews of Darlington's books, reports of his collecting trips, Museum of Comparative Zoology affairs, and other topics and concerns. Philip Jackson Darlington, Jr. (1904-1983) received his Ph. D. from Harvard in 1931. He was the Fall Curator of Coleoptera (1940-1962), Curator of Insects (1952-1962) and Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology (1962-1971) in the Museum of Comparative Zoology.
